3 Years of on-chain Governance
July is always an important month at DXdao because it’s the month the community celebrates the launch of DXdao governance. This July 14 marked the 3rd year since the first proposal was submitted to DXdao. The community marked the occasion with a 3 year anniversary POAP as well as a celebratory post going over highlights on DXdao’s history and the great strides made in year three.
DXdao started as a radical experiment in decentralization, because governance power would not start with insiders. Instead, governance power was distributed in a staking period to 399 Ethereum addresses. From these humble beginnings, DXdao launched the DXD token and now manages a series of DeFi and governance products.
Over the past year, DXdao’s reputation-based system, which is non-transferable, got a new name — “soulbound” as the rest of the crypto space realizes the pitfalls of token-based governance. Year three of DXdao was also the first time that many community members met in person. This has helped further DXdao’s brand in the Ethereum space as well as build strong connections within the DXdao community that enable better cooperation throughout the year. Year three also furthered the fractionalization of DXdao with the emergence of squads within DXdao as well as the first product token for Swapr.

Infinite Hackathons
With the vision of creating an open-sourced forkable hackathon, built on the three pillars of “Learn, Buidl and Have Fun”, Infinite Hackathons has found its way into the product suite of DXdao. While “Infinite Hackathons’’ was originally called HackerSoul, common sense and brand-ability prevailed. Infinite has settled itself into the DXdao glossary, and now simply rolls off the tongue. With the hopes of being the first of many, the inaugural edition to be held in Bogotá Colombia from 7–9 Oct 2022, just before Devcon VI, will be named the Genesis Edition.
Delivering on the founding principles of “Learn, Buidl and Have Fun” is the primary focus of Infinite Hackathons. This has led to DXdao partnering with other incredible projects in the space that share this vision; the larger values of privacy, sovereignty, and decentralization that are the cornerstones of DXdao’s ethos. We are overjoyed to embark on this journey with Brink and Hoprnet.
Partnering with like-minded projects helps to elevate the level of technical experience of both mentors and judges alike, raising the quality of learning and projects built. Putting a bunch of decentralization maximalists in charge of a hackathon covers the base of having fun. Jokes aside, ensuring that hackers have the correct support and environment within which to build guarantees that they do not need to worry about the usual distractions, making the hackathon more fun and enjoyable.
We hope to see you in Bogotá Colombia from 7–9 Oct. If you are interested in applying to hack at Infinite Genesis or becoming a co-organizer, we would love to have you.
ETHCC Blockchain Week
Connecting with like minded builders in fun environments… What more could you ask for? DXdao contributors came in droves to the ETHCC Blockchain Week, supported by an impressive swag offering, Swapr marketing efforts, and its own Happy Hour event.
Starting with the Happy Hour, DXdao had the unique opportunity to organize a mixer style event alongside some of its most trusted partners, including Gnosis Chain, GitPOAP and Gnosis SAFE. The space was a resounding success, providing a perfect (and comfortable) avenue for fostering and exploring further relationships in our ecosystem.
Swag also played an integral part of DXdao’s presence, with some calling the offerings “Literally the best swag item ever from a conference.” Fans, shirts, hats, brochures and stickers were all consistently sought after and stood above the crowd.
Fans — A thousand times over this stole the hearts of the crowd. Despite dozens of other projects bringing their own branded fans, DXdao stepped up the level of quality through the fun “Decentralize!” brand. The fans could be spotted everywhere throughout the week and all around the various parties.
Shirts — A new path… Knocking it absolutely out of the park, DXdao designed shirts were aesthetically beautiful and profound. So beautiful in fact, that contributor @MilanV has claimed the title of the first DXdao branded tattoo. There were also some DXdao hats flying around!
Other fun initiatives:
- DXdao co-hosts ETH Paris Mixer: DXdao contributors Sky Minert and Arhat coordinated with Gnosis Chain, GnosisSafe and Gitpoap, and together with DXdao, hosted one of the finest events of the ETH Paris Week. A fun time was had by all, while enjoying breathtaking views of Paris.
- Sky breaks down a year in DAOs: After a month-long DAO sabbatical, spanning Germany and France. Sky took a deep dive into where DAOs are today versus a year ago.
- DXdao moves in on Paris: With a full complement of DXdao contributors in Paris, DXdao was able to spread the word of DXdao governance and Swapr. DXdao’s super swag also picked up a few new fans along the way.
